July 16th Update – Serve Day

Today, we hopped on the train to Castellammare to serve at Caritas. Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly by the staff and given some yummy treats. We then learned that Caritas was born out of helping poor people through the love of Jesus. We served by cleaning bathrooms, cleaning the kitchen, and cleaning the walkway. After our cleaning duties were done, we joined some of the community for lunch. Later that night, we all helped out with a youth camp. I’ll admit I was a little nervous because I don’t speak any Italian. However, I was super blessed to have girls who were more than willing to have...

Reflections on Leadership: Lessons Learned as a World Racer

Leadership is a journey, not a destination. This truth became increasingly clear to me during my time as a World Racer. The World Race challenges participants to step out of their comfort zones, engage with diverse cultures, and serve communities in need. Throughout this transformative journey, I learned invaluable lessons about leadership through following, spiritual growth, humility, service, logistics, team maintenance, and empathy. Spiritual Growth: Leading with Faith One of the foundational aspects of leadership I discovered on the World Race is the importance of spiritual growth. Leading...

July 15th Update – Student Takeover Day

Feeling rested and ready for the day, all the students headed to class. Jacob led us into a beautiful time of worshipping the Lord. Viviana led us through an exercise of purpose discovery questions. We learned what we are good at, what makes us happy, and what areas we need to grow in. Mandie then showed us what a prayer walk consists of. We all divided into groups and prayed over the city, prayed over each other, and many other things. To end the day, some of the students went on a boat ride with their host family while some of the other students went out for late-night gelato. Viviana leading...

July 12th Update – Reflection & Breakthrough

Half asleep and the sun beaming, we walked to class. Upon arriving, we were thrilled to be greeted by the cold A/C, because we were very sweaty from our walk. We then had a great discussion with Mark Almand on what curiosity is, and we learned that curiosity leads to the calling God has for our lives. Afterward, Jacob had us reflect on some questions about what we have learned from this trip and how we want to implement these areas into our lives when we get back home. It was good to have some space and time to see what the Lord has been teaching us here in Italy. To finish off our class day,...

July 11th Update

The Lord is giving us fresh wind here in Sorrento! Our team is coming alive in our callings and grasping heaven to bring it down on Earth. All the glory to God as all we have done is show up with open hands and hearts and get to move with what the Holy Spirit is already doing here!   This morning our “yes” looked like setting our alarms for a 6am prayer meeting at the church. Not only did we show up but so did lots of eager church members hungry for the presence of God and for growth in their prayer lives.   Seth Barnes led us in getting uncomfortable. He encouraged us to get in small...

Behind the Scenes: Organizing a World Race

When you think of the World Race, what comes to mind? Is it the image of young adventurers trekking across continents, spreading the Gospel, and engaging in community service? While these are undoubtedly the highlights, a whole world behind the scenes makes these journeys possible. Organizing a World Race squad involves meticulous logistics, relationship-building, and organizational prowess. Here’s a peek into what it takes to launch a World Race squad. The Blueprint: Logistics At the heart of every World Race lies a detailed blueprint of logistics. From selecting the destinations to ensuring...
