Called “The Land of Lakes and Volcanoes,” thick rainforests, rugged highlands, and beautiful beaches define Nicaragua’s landscape. Its rich history dates back to the Spanish conquistadores. However, hopelessness, addiction, destitution, and poverty plague many in Nicaragua. The poorest nation in Central America, almost 80% of Nicaraguans live on less than $2 a day. One in four Nicaraguans is either starving or suffering from malnutrition. Entire families live on and scrounge for scraps in city dumps. The people of Nicaragua need to know they are seen, loved, and not forgotten by God.
REAP Granada believes that transformation in Nicaragua happens through relationships. These relationships come from various Touchpoints in the community. From meeting people on the basketball court, to visiting them in their homes, to working together on the farm, to discipling men and women in Bible study, Touchpoints drive both the mission and vision to transform lives through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Begin your journey in Costa Rica, near the coastal town of Puerto Viejo. During your time in this tropical country, you will work alongside other missionaries at a local YWAM base. You will use your gifts and passions to dive into a variety of opportunities from children’s ministry to tutoring or sports outreach. Share the hope of the Gospel with indigenous groups impacted by poverty. Join the local church to worship and share testimonies of what God is doing.
Along the way, you’ll also get a chance to do projects that will help the base continue to reach their community long after you’re gone. As you connect with locals, you’ll share the joy you’ve found through pushing beyond the surface-level understanding of God to experience what it means to have a real, life-changing relationship with Him. While you grow in your spiritual gifts, you can walk out your faith by showing this pura vida nation the true source of Life.
