Embracing a Gap Year After High School with the World Race
So you graduated from high school… what now? The world and education systems have changed dramatically, making post-graduation decisions more complicated than ever. The traditional path – high school, college, then career – might no longer be the best way to fulfill God’s purpose for your life.
It’s Not Too Late to Consider a Gap Year
Have you thought about taking a gap year but worried about how it might affect your future plans? Questions like “What is a Gap Year?” or “Is a Gap Year worth it?” might be on your mind. The World Race: Gap Year program is here to answer those questions and show you a unique path forward.
What is Gap Year?
A Gap Year is a break between high school and college that allows students to explore, serve, and grow before diving into further education. The World Race: Gap Year is specifically designed for high school graduates (ages 18-20) who want to serve others through a Christian mission trip. This program goes beyond taking a year off and beyond a traditional mission trip; it’s about a lifestyle transformation.
What Would You Do on World Race: Gap Year?
Experience Missions
On the World Race: Gap Year, ministry isn’t confined to a schedule; it becomes a lifestyle. You’ll partner with strategic ministry partners and learn to seek the Kingdom of God in every aspect of life. In each country, you’ll build relationships with locals, share the Gospel in their cultural context, and show Jesus’s love through service and hospitality. These experiences will equip you to see your hometown as a mission field, ready to share God’s love wherever you go.
Serve Others
For nine months, you will serve in three different countries, partnering with local missionaries to meet community needs. You’ll bring fresh energy and resources to long-term missions while being trained to share the Gospel globally. This hands-on service not only impacts those you help but also deepens your understanding of God’s work around the world.
Discover God’s Plan
During your World Race: Gap Year, you’ll grow in listening to God’s voice in everyday life. Whether you’re in ministry, in prayer, or exploring a new country, you’ll have opportunities to hear from God and discover His plans for you. This journey helps you identify your passions and better understand the path God has for your life.
Find Community
While on a gap year, you won’t miss out on the college experience of building a close-knit community. Instead, you’ll experience a unique and profound community with other believers. You’ll grow together in faith through prayer, ministry, and adventures, creating bonds that will last a lifetime.
Is Gap Year Worth It?
A former World Race: Gap Year participant shared their experience:
“The World Race: Gap Year was the most challenging yet life-giving time of my life. Before, I thought I knew Jesus, but living as a missionary revealed so much more to learn. It gave me a safe community to ask hard questions about my faith and experience God’s love firsthand. We saw beautiful places, had crazy adventures, and built lasting relationships. Gap Year taught me that every moment is a ministry opportunity. Coming home was hard, but I’m grateful that my Race friends became lifelong friends, and I get to live for the Kingdom every day.”
If you’re wondering what to do after high school graduation, consider the transformative experience of a Gap Year with the World Race. It’s a journey of faith, service, and self-discovery that prepares you to impact the world for God’s Kingdom. Embrace the adventure and find your calling with the World Race: Gap Year.
