What happens when you stop seeing strangers and start seeing sons and daughters?
Travel has a way of changing your view. But the World Race does more than show you new places, it transforms how you see the people in them. You arrive with a suitcase and assumptions. You leave with a testimony and a new lens.
Because the more you walk with Jesus, the more your heart starts to break like His. You begin to look at the world not with judgment, fear, or labels, but with compassion, humility, and hope.
And that changes everything.
Beyond Stereotypes and Snap Judgments
It’s easy to reduce people to headlines, accents, or appearances. Before the Race, you might’ve read about places like Cambodia, Guatemala, or Eswatini and thought of poverty, war, or need.
But then you go. And suddenly, those aren’t places on a map – they’re names, stories, families, friendships.
You sit on a dusty porch with a grandmother in South Africa. You play soccer with kids in Nicaragua. You hear a testimony that stops you in your tracks in the Philippines.
And you realize: this person is not a project. They are deeply loved by God. Not “less than.” Not “other.” Not “them.”
Just us. Just a brother. A sister. A reflection of the Creator.
Letting God Redefine What You See
The shift happens slowly, like a camera coming into focus.
You start noticing the little things:
- The resilience behind a quiet smile.
- The strength in the woman running a home full of children.
- The joy of a church that sings with everything they have, even when they have almost nothing.
You stop scanning for differences and start celebrating the image of God in every culture, every face, every encounter.
Jesus did this all the time. He saw tax collectors and fishermen and lepers and children and said, Come. You belong.
A Lens of Love
One Racer said it this way:
“I thought I was going to help people. But really, God just wanted me to see them the way He does. And once you do that, you can’t unsee it.”
This is what changes you. This is what sticks with you long after the passport stamps fade. It’s not just about seeing the world. It’s about seeing the world through God’s eyes.
And once you do, you start seeing yourself differently, too. Not as someone who has all the answers, but someone being shaped, refined, and sent by the One who does.
