Uruguay
Mission Trips
The Basics
With its lush interior and white sand beaches, Uruguay is a popular vacation spot for tourists.
The country is known for its prosperity, cultural tolerance, and lack of corruption.
Because the majority of Uruguayans are of European descent, the culture is strongly influenced by Europe—the only post-Christian continent on the planet.
Uruguay has no national religion and is known as the most secular country in the Americas. However, in the past 20 years, the church has grown significantly.
Despite their comfortable lifestyle, the people of Uruguay are hungry for something money can’t buy.
Will you share God’s love with them?
Culture
Uruguay has a very traditional, nationalistic culture. Its people don’t like being compared to their neighbors in Paraguay or Argentina, or having their culture criticized by foreigners.
Socially, Uruguayans are friendly, hospitable, and enjoy having guests in their homes. Though they can be very direct in what they say, they choose their words with care.
A handshake is a typical greeting between all genders and social classes.
