Over the past 50 years, this country has slowly become a democracy. Freedom of press, economic liberties, public education, and good health care have increased as the nation has experienced economic growth and industrialization. The vast majority of Taiwanese practice a combination of Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism, and ancient Chinese religions. Will you share real freedom and light in this island nation of prosperity and spiritual darkness?

Culture

Taiwanese culture is extremely communal. Social interactions stem from the belief that people should always be doing things together.

“Face” is extremely important. There are several ways to “lose face,” one the easiest being belligerent in public.

Do not touch anyone, especially a baby, on top of the head.

Public displays of affection are not acceptable.

Feet are considered very dirty. Men do not cross their legs, and sit with both feet firmly planted on the ground.
