The Basics
One of the most beautiful countries in Africa, Mozambique is one of the poorest and most underdeveloped countries in the world.
Natural disasters, disease, low agricultural productivity, and high population growth contribute to the nation’s high poverty rate. The average woman has 5 children.
Over 45% of the population is under the age of 15, and Mozambique also has the 5th highest HIV/AIDS rate in the world.
However, this former Portuguese colony is seeing signs of economic recovery, and the church is growing. Will you join the work God is doing in Mozambique?
Culture
Song and dance are extremely important to the people of Mozambique. Many customs and ceremonies are accompanied by traditional Mozambican dances.
Most people have begun to wear Western-style clothing, although in more rural areas traditional African clothing is worn.
Mozambique does not have much of a middle class. Aside from a tiny ruling elite, the majority of the country lives in poverty.
The animism practiced in Mozambique is quite common and is for communicating with the spirits of ancestors.

Explore
Mozambique boasts of some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. On a beach in Beira you can find a shipwreck and a lighthouse.
The beaches in Beline are beautiful, and you can inexpensively pay a boat to take you out of the lagoon and into the Indian ocean.
In Maputo, it is definitely worth it to take the ferry out to Catembe Island!
Maputo also contains a very impressive train station designed by an associate of Alexandre Gustav Eiffel, as in the Eiffel Tower.
