Mission Trips
The Basics
Madagascar, the fourth largest island in the world, is a nature lover’s dream.
Over 90% of its wildlife cannot be found anyone else on Earth. It’s even been called a potential location for the Garden of Eden.
This land is so full of evidence of the Creator, yet its people search for God in the wrong places.
Over 55% of the population practices traditional religion and ancestor worship, while most of the 40% who practice Christianity do so while mixing in traditional, tribal, religious practices.
Will you live the light of Christ in one of the most beautiful islands on earth?
Culture
Madagascar highly values “face”. It can be a very beat-around-the-bush culture.
There are thousands of cultural taboos, or fadys (pronounced FAH-dee), many of which involve food (don’t eat goat or eel), days of the week (no funerals or farming on Tuesday) and objects (don’t use shovels with firm handles to bury the dead). Breaking a fady invites social shame.
By contrast, the Malagasy consider the future unknowable. Buses in Madagascar leave when a bus is full, instead of on schedule. The situation triggers the event. This view of time can be frustrating for Westerners.

Explore
Madagascar is known for its vibrant and unique outdoor magnificence. The most popular creature in Madagascar is the lemur, and the most popular tree is the baobab. These can be found in the several parks located throughout the country.
Parc National de l’Isalo is Madagascar’s most visited park dedicated to beautiful desert sights. It is located by the small town of Ranohira.
Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar, contains beautiful cityscapes, shopping, culinary delights, and a lemur park!
