MIDDLE EAST

Jordan

Mission Trips

The Basics

At the crossroads of Asia, Africa, and Europe, Jordan is one of the safest Arab countries in the Middle East. Home to many historical Biblical sites like the Petra and the Jordan River, it’s also a popular location for medical tourism. While 97% of the population is Muslim, some of the oldest Christian communities in the world live in Jordan. Despite conflict in nearby countries, this nation has become a safe haven for refugees from Palestine and Syria, in addition to Iraqi Christians fleeing ISIS. Will you encourage local Christians, serve refugees, and share God’s love in Jordan?

Culture

The people of Jordan are warm, welcoming, and hospitable, but their culture is very traditional.

Jordanian clothing is extremely modest. Both men and women should wear pants. It is unthinkable to wear ripped or dirty clothing. Women should wear loose fitting clothing that covers most of their bodies, including the neck.

It is common in Jordan for strangers to greet each other with a kiss on the cheek and an inquiry into each other’s family.

Explore
