MIDDLE EAST

Israel

Mission Trips

The Basics

The nation of Israel has shaped history like no other on earth. One of the most educated countries in the world, Israel has the highest standard of living in the Middle East—and the fourth highest in Asia. Yet its people have been persecuted more than any other nation. The birthplace of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, Israel holds some of the most highly contested historical sites in all of the world. Religious and ethnic conflict are common, as cultural tensions run high. Will you walk and serve among God’s people, and in the very place Jesus Himself lived, died, and rose again?

Culture

Israel is one of the most controversial plots of land in the world. Contested for its sacred sights for hundreds of years, Israel is famous for its religious tension and history.

Women dress conservatively when around holy sites. Shorts are not acceptable for either gender.

It is normal to remove one’s shoes upon entering an Arab household.

Israelis are extremely hospitable. When an Israeli is hosting they are known to be extremely attentive to your every need. You can say “toda raba” to thank them.

Israelis highly value water and try to conserve wherever they can. You may notice disapproval if you take too long a shower or use excessive water while washing dishes.

Explore

There are a myriad of sights dating back to the Bible; the Western Wall, the Sea of Galilee, the Tower of David, the Mount of Olives, Gethsemane, the Garden Tomb, the Mount of Beatitudes.

Explore the winding walls of Old City Jerusalem.

Take an active role in educating yourself about the holocaust at the Yad Vashem Museum.

Float in the Dead Sea.
