Mission Trips

The Basics

Known for its rolling green hills, leprechauns, and the Cliffs of Moher, Ireland is a land of enchantment. However, due to decades-long political and religious conflict between the north and south, it is also a nation divided. Ireland boasts a heritage of Christianity through Catholicism, yet its internal national conflict, rampant alcoholism, and suicide rates display a desperate need for hope. Through sports ministry, children’s outreach, street evangelism, and the relationships that happen along the way, will you share your life-giving faith in this beautiful, historic land?

Culture

Men and women usually shake hands when greeting one another. Handshakes are usually on the firmer side and don’t linger much. Hugs are acceptable for someone you are very close to.

Taxi drivers are generally tipped 10 percent of the total fare. At restaurants, a service charge of 10 to 15 percent is often included on the bill (if not, a 10 to 15 percent tip is standard depending on the quality of service).

Explore

Take a tour to the Cliffs of Moher. It’s slightly expensive but well worth the money.

If you are near Coleraine, you can buy an all day bus pass to see the Giant’s Causeway, Dunluce Castle, and the Rope Bridge for 6 pounds. Port Rush and Port Stewart are also close by, and absolutely breathtaking. Port Rush has more cliffs to walk along—just don’t trip!

Take a train to Londonberry, the last remaining walled city in Ireland.
