Mission Trips
The Basics
Because of abundant petroleum resources, Gabon is one of the most prosperous nations in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Located on the Equator, Gabon was one of four French Equatorial Territories until it declared independence in 1960. About 70% of the population speaks French.
Although almost 75% of the population practice Christianity, it’s often mixed with ancient tribal religious practices. There is also a large disparity between the rich and the poor, which is a large portion of the population.
Will you help bridge this gap by sharing the hope of Jesus Christ in Gabon?
Culture
Gabonese are very communal. Personal space is not respected. When interested in something, they stare at it. In conversation, they are quite blunt.
Foreigners occasionally feel uncomfortable by having someone stand in their space, or being called “white”, and put off by people who ask them for their watch and shoes. None of these things are meant in a negative way, as they simply reflect the up-front nature of the Gabonese.

Explore
Gabon strongly values its natural resources and wildlife, thus there are protected areas to ensure its safety. Loango National Park is known by some as “Africa’s Last Eden”. You can spend a day there and see elephants, buffalos, hippos, gorillas, leopards and more on the beautiful, white sand beaches!
Makokou and Kongou Falls, a gorgeous wide spanning series of waterfalls that rival the Niagara Falls, are worth the trip.
If you are in the mood for a rugged safari then go and check out the Réserve de la Lopé. FIlled with wildlife and unforgettable scenery, this is a must-see.
