With its glimmering coastlines, untouched rainforests, and off-the-beaten path adventures, Panama is a playground for beachgoers and backpackers alike. The construction of the Panama Canal, completed in 1914, opened up many opportunities for a thriving economy and diverse population to develop in its capital city. Panama sits at the crossroads of two continents, and its thriving immigrant communities and indigenous populations make this country vibrant and diverse.

Culture

The largest ethnic group in Panama are people with an indigenous background. You’ll find a diverse range of cultures and languages across Panama’s cities and jungles

Panama City will give you a small taste of the 10/40 window – many South Asian immigrants have settled here, and almost every religion has a representation in this country.

Explore

Go explore the historic Panama Viejo Ruins and bell tower outside of Panama City. This city was sacked by pirates in 1671 and is a great place to spend a day.

Take a cruise on the Panama Canal, then go tour the colonial-era streets of Panama City’s old town. You’ll be able to experience the culture and history of this beautiful country and won’t regret it!

If you are near Boquete, you can explore an abandoned castle, as well as hike, rent mopeds, and raft local rivers.
