Once a hub for the slave trade, Cote d’Ivoire is a nation of exports, now booming with progress and economic growth.

The capital Abidjan, a bustling port city filled with colorful bridges and towering skyscrapers, is truly an architectural feat, having been built on a lagoon spread across many islands.

Cote d’Ivoire is very open and hospitable.

Cultural expectations of men and women are quite different. Overall, the status of women in Ivorian society is quite low with their patriarchal values. Women are often expected to serve the men.

You can easily make friends here if you attempt to get to know the culture. Try out the language and try on their traditional clothing!
If you are in Abidjan, make sure to go see the Pyramid building and other impressive architecture like the St. Paul Cathedral.

If you find yourself in Grand Bassam, be sure to check out the markets and beautiful beaches.
