The smallest country in Central America, El Salvador is the most densely populated nation in the region.
Because of its geographic location, El Salvador has a long history of earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and hurricanes. These severe weather conditions have deeply impacted the economy.
At least 20% of El Salvadorans live in other countries. The remaining are at risk for gang influence and violence due to poverty, family disintegration, and lack of education.
El Salvador literally means “the Savior”, and its people are looking for just that. Will you share the security of God’s love and acceptance in El Salvador?
Culture
El Salvadorans are very conversational and love to speak with foreigners. Many speak English due to their country’s close relationship with the United States. Close friends may hug and kiss on the right cheek. Men will shake hands with women, although they will wait for the woman to extend her hand.
When invited to a home, it is recommended that you bring a gift of food, drink, or flowers.
Gender roles in El Salvador tend to be quite traditional, where the man is the breadwinner and the wife takes care of the home.

If you want to go to the beach, Costa del Sol is beautiful but El Tunco has more restaurants and lodging. Both are about an hour and a half from San Salvador.
The town of Ataco offers some street markets and a mountain with a beautiful view and giant cross at the top.
Linda Vista Gardens is a really cool coffee shop and wedding venue on a volcano with incredible views. It is also possible to hike the volcano there.
