A Hub Model of International Engagement:

We are passionate about partnering with ministries that we know and trust, and who continue to minister sustainably in their communities with or without us. Our new hub model will enable us to serve our partners more effectively while also giving Racers great opportunities to engage in a variety of ministries!

Each region will have a hub country (HUB Country) with a host that we have a deep relationship with. Racers will receive cultural and ministry training from hub leaders that will prepare them to effectively engage in their region. Then hub leaders will work with the squad leadership and will mobilize them to meet needs and engage in ministry opportunities () in surrounding countries.

Thus, your squad will go to the hub countries listed on your route, and you may go to any number of the surrounding countries in which we have ministry opportunities, depending on the current needs and opportunities available. And it is going to be AMAZING!

*This is, of course, dependant on the availability of ministry and openness of the country to international visitors.

Ever since I can remember, I wanted to be a missionary. It was my dream to travel the world and tell people about Jesus. I loved the stories of adventure and exploration, while helping people along the way. Little did I know, the journey would unlock something so much deeper for me. In 2013, I launched on the World Race and everything started to change. I learned that I was so loved by the Father. He loved me, not because of what I could do for Him, but because of who I was, His beloved daughter. I began to see His deep love, not only for me, but also for His bride and His world. I saw that nothing could possibly make Him happier than having His kids back together with Him. This transformed me and I know that I will spend the rest of my life telling people about His extravagant love for them.

Hey. My name is Austin. My father is a big Dallas Cowboys fan and wanted to name me Dallas, but my mom was definitely not naming her child Dallas(thanks mom!). Since Austin is a city in Texas, it was negotiated to be my name. I love the Fall and spring. They are my favorite times of the year, also the best times of the year to go for a run(or motorcycle ride), which I love as well. I also love ultimate frisbee, tennis, volleyball, football and other sports activities. Also I have no shame and fully comfortable in saying that I love Channing Tatum. He's a good looking man who can dance. Just sayin'

Location: Chiang Mai
Ministry: Adventures in Missions Thailand Base
Focus: Church Planting, Anti Trafficking Ministry, Unreached People Groups

Thailand is known by many as “The Land of Smiles”. Though an alluring tourist destination, Thailand’s glimmering cities and sandy beaches are marred by the dark reputation of sex trafficking and sex tourism. Nearly 90% of the population is unreached with the Gospel.
Here you will have the opportunity to reveal the truth of Jesus to a deeply unreached country by helping train and encourage local believers to share the Gospel with their neighbors and plant churches, which will multiply to more churches. You will intercede for those trapped in human trafficking through prayer walks and come alongside organizations that are helping rescue and restore those caught in the sex trade industry.

Opportunities

Malaysia

Malaysia

Continent: South Asia
Focus: Prayer Ministry, Community Outreach
Located in Southeast Asia, Malaysia has one of the most competitive economies in all of Asia. Known for the tallest twin towers in the world, the Petronas Towers, it is a rising power in our global economy. With a large number of immigrants from India, Thailand, China, and Burma, Malaysia is culturally rich, with heavy influences of Hinduism and Buddhism. However, this culturally diverse and rapidly developing nation is mostly Muslim. With over half the population practicing Islam and other religions, the majority of Malaysians have never heard the Gospel. Will you share the love of Jesus in Malaysia? Partner with local ministries who emphasize intercession for their country and community projects that demonstrate the love of Jesus.
Myanmar

Myanmar

Continent: Southeast Asia
Focus: Unreached People Groups
Myanmar’s story is of a struggle for independence. Political groups have fought an ongoing war in this country for over 60 years. Commonly called Burma, but officially the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, political unrest and human right violations have led to nearly 200,000 refugees residing within Myanmar and neighboring countries like Thailand. Natural disasters, a sinking economy, and corrupt government have led to despair and poverty for many Burmese. Will you share hope and freedom with refugees, the lost, and the broken, in a country hungry for peace.
Laos

Laos

Continent: Southeast Asia
Focus: Unreached People Groups
The only landlocked country in Southeast Asia, Laos is home to some of most unreached hill tribes in the world. Following a brutal civil war, Laos came under communist rule in 1975. Today, more than a third of Laos’ population lives below the international poverty line. The government has been accused of corruption and violating human rights against a minority tribe called the Hmong people. The majority of Laotians practice Buddhism and spirit worship. Christian missionary work is often monitored by the government. Will you live the Gospel in a nation where the name of Jesus is not known?

Focus: Community Outreach, Children's Ministry, Evangelism, Unreached People Groups

From the charming city of Siem Reap to the wondrous temples of Angkor Wat, the Kingdom of Cambodia fascinates and inspires. As you ride a tuk-tuk down dusty village roads surrounded by flooded rice paddies, you might see houses built on stilts or crumbling Buddhist temples. Even after a devastating genocide wiped out a generation, the Cambodian people are moving forward with a hopeful outlook and a generous heart.

With Buddhism being the largest religion, the task remaining in Cambodia is large with 98% of the population unreached with the Gospel. Come alongside the local church as we train and equip believers to reach their neighbors. Serve in a variety of practical ways, helping meet the needs of children and families.

Adventures in Missions has bases in Thailand and Cambodia, each with a large network of ministry partners throughout their countries and Southeast Asia.

Indonesia

Indonesia

Continent: South Asia
Focus: Evangelism, Unreached People Groups
Composed of over 17,000 islands, Indonesia is the largest island nation on earth. Though it has the 4th largest population in the world, barely a third of Indonesia’s islands are inhabited. The rest are so densely forested that they rival the Amazon jungle in their beauty and inaccessibility. Indonesia’s motto of “Many, yet one,” refers to its incredible diversity as a symbol of its unity. Over 700 languages are spoken throughout the country, which is the largest Muslim nation on earth. Will you share the unifying love of Jesus in this diverse country?
Philippines

Philippines

Continent: Southeast Asia
Focus: Youth Ministry, Church Ministry, Feeding Program
Known for its diverse terrain of mountains, volcanoes, and beaches, the Philippines is a popular haven for tourists. A melting pot of cultures, religion, and tradition, the beautiful people of the Philippines are very diverse, with influences from America, Spain, and other Asian countries. More than a getaway for Westerners, this 7,000 island archipelago is home to many who earn less than 15 cents per day—giving them the status of “ultra poor”. In order to survive, some have resorted to prostitution and human trafficking. Will you share the freedom of life in Christ in the Philippines? Serve with local ministries as they meet the needs of abandoned children and the poor by “showing” them the Gospel.
Vietnam

Vietnam

Continent: Southeast Asia
Focus: Student Ministry
After nearly a century of French rule, Vietnam split into the communist (north) and non-communist (south) in the 1950’s. Conflict between the two sides led to the Vietnam War. But by 1975, Vietnam was a completely communist country. Even with the economic reforms and restoration of diplomatic ties, human rights are limited in Vietnam—especially freedom of religion. A majority of Vietnamese are Buddhist or don’t claim any religion at all. Vietnam’s story is one of searching and fighting for freedom. Will you live your faith in a country where you might not be able to say the name “Jesus”?

Partner with the local church by training and encouraging pastors as they reach their neighbors and plant churches that multiply into more churches. Nepal

Nepal

Continent: Central Asia
Focus: Children's Ministry, Anti-Trafficking Ministry, Trekking Ministry, Unreached People Groups
The small mountainous country of Nepal is one of the most breathtaking places on earth. Home to Mount Everest, the world's tallest mountain, Nepal literally sits on top of the world. It’s a backpacker’s paradise. Though Nepal is primarily Hindu and Buddhist, Christianity is on the rise. However, most of the population is still unreached with the Gospel. Women and children are still at risk of poverty and human-trafficking. Join Nepali churches as they reach their neighbors with the Gospel, invest in kids through school and sports ministries, and provide skills training for women at risk of human trafficking.

Due to its mountainous terrain, Kyrgyzstan is completely isolated from its neighbors—and has one of the most preserved ancient cultures in the world. As a crossroads of ancient civilizations on the Great Silk Road and a land of nomads, its people are an almost pristine picture of the great warriors who walked the land centuries ago. The birthplace of Islam for Central Asia, Kyrgyzs consider themselves more cultural Muslims than devout practitioners. While in Kyrgyzstan you will share the ancient truth of how God, the ultimate warrior, conquered death so they can live victoriously.

Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan

Continent: Central Asia
Focus: Community Outreach, Unreached People Groups
Kazakhstan is a land of free spirits. The term “kazakh” comes from an ancient Turk word meaning, “independent; free spirit” —a perfect description for its horseback nomadic culture. The last to declare independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, Kazakhstan is the 9th largest country in the world and has the strongest economy in Central Asia. With 70% of its population Muslim and 26% Russian Orthodox, it is also a land in need of the Gospel. Will you share the freedom of life in Christ in Kazakhstan?
Georgia

Georgia

Continent: Middle East
Focus: Evangelism
Georgia is at the crossroads between Western Asia and Eastern Europe. Formerly part of the USSR, in 2007 the World Bank dubbed the nation “the #1 economic reformer in the world” due to its developing economy and natural resources, growing tourist popularity, and oil pipeline. 84% of the population are members of the Georgian Orthodox church, which claims to be founded by the Apostle Andrew. Will you be part of this nation’s continuing growth as you live and serve in one of the first locations of the early church?
Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan

Continent: Middle East
Focus: Unreached People Groups
Situated at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, Azerbaijan’s steep mountains and rolling hills are sure to take your breath away. Once part of the Soviet Union, the nation declared independence in 1991. Azerbaijan now has a healthy economy, a high literacy rate, and low unemployment. Its popularity as a religious, spa, and healthcare tourist destination is on the rise. While 97% of Azerbaijanis claim Islam, a recent poll shows that only 21% of the citizens consider religion important. The majority of the population are cultural and ethnic Muslims, not faith-based. Will you share the love of Jesus in Azerbaijan?

Home to El Camino de Santiago, or the Way of St. James. Pilgrims throughout the ages have travelled this spiritual path, marked by scallop shells and lit by the Milky Way. However, this land of deep passion is also one of great apathy. 10% of the population is atheist and while 69% call themselves Roman Catholic, only a quarter of the nation attends a religious service once a month. While walking the same path as pilgrims from centuries past, your trek through northwest Spain will be one of the heart: the journey of your relationship with God, of this nation’s need for Christ, and of his deep, never-ending love for those who have rejected his name.

Focus: Evangelism, Student Ministry, Children's Ministry, Community Outreach, Church Planting

Romania is in the heart of Eastern Europe. The country is home to many Romanians who are familiar with the Orthodox Church and Roma people who are among the least reached in the country. Among both groups, faithful Romanian missionaries are evangelizing, discipling, and planting churches and people are starting to choose to live for Jesus. Will you choose to join these missionaries as they reach their towns, region, and continent with the Gospel?

Our ministry partner, Hope Church, is a community dedicated to growing and impacting people with the hope of Christ on a local, regional, and international scope. Through training local, Romanian missionaries, the church has planted several churches throughout Southern Romania and has expanded their outreach to other countries in the Balkans. Our teams assist Hope Church with their outreaches on college campuses, to the Roma community, and children’s programs.

Albania

Albania

Continent: Southern Europe
Focus: Community Outreach, Student Ministry, Evangelism
Albania has the most coffee shops per capita in the world. With Mediterranean influences, you’ll enjoy the culture and people of Albania. Islam is the primary religion of Albania, with over 50% of Albanians identifying as Muslim. The Christian church is growing quickly in the country. Join the local church as they reach their neighbors with the Gospel. Share coffee with Muslims or Christians as you share about the hope you find in Jesus.
Serbia

Serbia

Continent: Eastern Europe
Focus: Evangelism, Local Church Ministry, Church Planting
Formerly part of socialist Yugoslavia, Serbia’s people have a story to tell. The Balkan Peninsula has a long history of ethnic tension, as reorganized borders don’t always match the people living within the nation. While many ethnic Serbs live in Albania, Montenegro, and other nearby countries, many within Serbia's borders claim another country as home. Great social injustices on both sides have led to organized crime and human trafficking. Those living in the Balkan Peninsula are hungry for hope and restoration. Will you help them experience the healing power of God’s love?
Bulgaria

Bulgaria

Continent: Southern Europe
Focus: Evangelism, Local Church Ministry, Church Planting
Formerly part of the Eastern Bloc, Bulgaria remained under communism until 1990. Today this democratic nation is part of the European Union. Many Bulgarians identify the Orthodox Church, with over half the population belonging to the church. The Protestant Church is growing among the Bulgarian and Roma populations in the country. Will you build relationships and share the love of Jesus with a community in Bulgaria?
Greece

Greece

Continent: Southern Europe
Focus: Evangelism, Prayer Walking, Local Church Ministry
Often called the birthplace of civilization, Greece is known for its deep cultural history. Over the past few years, Greece's financial crisis has topped the news highlights, and most recently it was a major transition point for refugees. Still at the forefront of today’s news, Greece is in need of hope. Will you follow in the steps of Apostle Paul and share God’s love in a country that was once a hub for Christianity?
Kosovo

Kosovo

Continent: Southern Europe
Focus: Unreached People Groups, Evangelism
The Republic of Kosovo is located in the middle of the Balkans region and was part of the former Yugoslavia. The country declared its independence in 2008 after centuries of ethnic conflict. Nearly 90% of people identify as Muslim and there is little growth in the local Christian church. As a result, over 1.5 million people are still unreached with the Gospel. Will you share the healing love of Jesus Christ in a land desperate for peace?

Hub Route FAQs

What is a hub country?

A hub is an Adventures in Missions Base or Strategic Ministry Partner that will function as the gateway into a region. In these hub locations, you will dive into cultural and ministry training for the context of that region.

Why was the change to the route structure made?

The hub model allows us to build a template of our intentions, to build strength into the experience through continued cultural and ministry training and quality partnerships. It also allows the World Race to operate with creativity and flexibility that allows us to navigate an ever-changing world.

Routes are built and available for application over a year (12-18 months) in advance of the launch date. It is impossible to predict exactly what the world will look like (i.e. global pandemic, international affairs, visa/travel restrictions) and what opportunities may be most timely, relevant, effective, and in the best interest of our partners.

Why are some countries labeled as opportunities?

Countries listed as opportunities for each region represent places where we have relationships with ministry partners. From the hub country, you will have an opportunity to serve in some of these countries, depending on the availability and needs of these partners. Countries from this list will be added to the hub countries to make up your route.

Is the World Race still 11 countries in 11 months?

The World Race is still intended to be 11 countries in 11 months. The new hub routes feature 3-4 hubs and other various countries where we have strategic ministry partners in those regions. Depending on our partners’ needs and availability of ministry as well as international travel and geopolitical issues, however, the specific number of countries could change for each squad.

Currently, the COVID-19 pandemic presents obvious challenges with international travel. Because of these limits, the routes currently on the field will be unable to reach 11 countries, and our team continues to work diligently to create the best opportunities for our participants and partners.

Which of the countries listed will I be going to?

For each route, there are countries listed as hubs and countries listed as opportunities. Your squad will begin in the hub country in each region and have the opportunity to travel to the other countries in the region where we have strategic ministry partners.

These opportunity countries and specific ministry placements will be determined based on availability, opportunity, and need. The Program Manager and Field Ministry Manager work closely together to identify each placement to ensure the opportunity is timely, relevant, effective, and in the best interest of our partners. At your Training Camp, we will have a much better view of the current realities and a more precise path forward.

How long will I spend in each country?

In general, you will spend 4 weeks in a country. You could spend more or less than 4 weeks in any particular country depending on needs and availability with our strategic ministry partners or challenges with international travel.

Could this route change?

All routes are subject to change. Our team is constantly monitoring political, health, weather, and other risks in the regions where we serve. We work with our network of strategic ministry partners to make any necessary adjustments to current or future routes.

Using the new hub route model gives us greater flexibility to plan and address problems with creativity and safety.
