I thought I was a Christian, but when I was 19 my view of everything (Jesus, the Bible, Church, Christianity) came tumbling down. I found myself angry and confused as I questioned what I had been told all my life. Little did I know I was on the path to making my faith my own. I spent the next few years figuring out who God was and what I believed. By the time I was 21, I decided Jesus was the answer. Since then, God has taken me from the slums of India to the mountains of Africa. He's transformed my heart, strengthened my faith, and given me purpose beyond myself. My story has given me a passion for the next generation because I know firsthand how influential those first few years out of high school are. I can't wait for you to join us on this journey!

Dave and Shelia have been married for 33 years, and have two grown daughters, both are married and they have two grandchildren. Noah David who is 4 and Emma Jane is 2. Not only are they smitten, they are grateful that God chose them to be their grandparents. Dave is a general contractor/developer and has been doing business in the Asheville NC area for over 33 years.\r\nShelia ran their mini storage facility until recently having sold the business. Both Dave and Shelia enjoy serving in the coffee bar at their church on SundayȹƑƉs and they both love to travel and hike.\r\nThey have enjoyed many opportunities to hike places such as, Machu Pichu, Tour Du Mont Blanc, and various volcano adventures. God has given them many opportunities to serve alongside church leadership and other Christian organizations. For the past 10 years they have had the opportunity to serve in leadership alongside Adventures in Missions, leading short-term mission trips all over the world. It is truly rewarding and fulfilling to listen to people who have a heart to serve others. As they grow older they often talk about how their perspectives have changed on what is important. In addition, both of them have felt a strong yearning to be more involved in long term missions and impacting the millennial generation. They are looking forward to working with the World Racers at AIM. GodȹƑƉs greatest commandment is that we love one another. They want to become a vessel to be used by God and encourage others to become Kingdom leaders. In addition, they want to embrace GodȹƑƉs will for their life, so that they can point others toward Him.

Known as the Land of Eternal Spring, the weather in Guatemala is as warm as its hospitable people. You’ll spend three months at our Adventures in Missions base located near the colonial town of Antigua. Surrounded by active volcanoes and hillsides covered in coffee farms, find yourself playing soccer with local kids or teaching English in a local school. As our base staff teaches you and equips you with God’s word, you will work alongside them to build relationships with the surrounding communities and show God’s love in tangible ways.

Ministry: Adventures in Missions Cambodia base
Focus: Community Outreach

From the modern city of Siem Reap to the ancient temples of Angkor Wat, the Kingdom of Cambodia intrigues and inspires. Hitch a ride on a rickety tuk-tuk down dusty village roads and you might see houses built on stilts or crumbling Buddhist temples. Join our partners as they minister to local street kids, teach English, and share the hope of the Gospel with local families. Family here is everything. Even after a devastating genocide wiped out a generation, the Cambodian people are rebuilding with a resilient outlook and a generous heart. Watch God rebuild this country as He continues to build your faith.

Focus: Children’s Ministry, Community Development, Leadership

Step away from modern life in the rural village of Nsoko, Eswatini, where you will fall in love with the incredible sunsets and the simple pace of life. During the last three months of your Gap Year journey, you will partner with the Adventures in Missions Eswatini base, which is bringing hope in this country where thousands of children have been orphaned by the HIV/AIDS epidemic. At Carepoints around the country, local staff are providing these children with food, clean water, education, healthcare, and discipleship. Our base staff will equip you to holistically care for these children and teach them about Jesus. Watch God transform your life as He continues to transform this country.
