1.4 billion people. Thousands of unreached people groups. The Indian church is ancient, diverse, and persecuted in many regions. You will serve alongside Indian believers doing community development, slum ministry, women’s empowerment, children’s programs, and prayer walking in cities and villages where the spiritual darkness is palpable and the light is desperately needed. India will overwhelm your senses, break your categories, and expand your understanding of Gods reach. Nothing prepares you for India. That is the point.

Culture

India is incredibly diverse, with hundreds of languages, many faiths, and traditions that vary from one region to the next. While every community is different, hospitality is a common thread. Guests are often treated with great honor, and it isn’t unusual to be offered food or tea shortly after arriving. Accepting even a small amount is usually seen as a sign of appreciation.

Family sits at the center of daily life. It’s common for multiple generations to stay closely connected, and elders are generally shown deep respect. You’ll notice people greeting older family members first, seeking their advice, and involving them in important decisions.

Relationships matter more than schedules. Take time to greet people, ask about their family, and build trust before jumping into business or ministry. Dress modestly, remove your shoes when entering many homes or places of worship, and whenever possible, use your right hand when giving or receiving items. Small gestures of respect go a long way.

Explore

Watch the sunrise over the Taj Mahal in Agra, wander the colorful streets and forts of Rajasthan, or lose yourself in the organized chaos of markets where every turn offers something new.

If nature is more your style, head for the Himalayas in the north, where snow-capped peaks, alpine villages, and scenic trails replace busy city streets.

You can also travel south to Kerala, where houseboats drift through quiet backwaters, waterfalls hide in the hills, and spice plantations stretch across the landscape.
