2/24/2020 - Coronavirus (Covid-19) update
Adventures in Missions has both an internal Risk Management team and external risk management consultants who are monitoring this situation on a daily – sometimes hourly – basis. As this was first hitting the news in January 2020, we proactively took inventory of all current and future team locations and flight itineraries and made adjustments so that no one would be serving in or flying through high risk areas of China. The list of flight restrictions, and the routes of future trips, may shift as airlines and countries respond to new areas of outbreak.
We are continuing to assess the information provided by reputable agencies such as the World Health Organization and the Centers for Disease Control, we are staying on top of the new protocols being put in place as countries take steps to protect their own borders, and we are instructing our team and squad leadership to stress the importance of basic precautionary actions such as handwashing. In addition, we have re-evaluated such things as how far our participants can venture from their home base on their adventure days and have restricted their ability to “wait and see” before going to a doctor if they aren’t feeling well.
At this point, we are still sending teams to Asia. Our staff has continued to travel in and out of Asia without issue. Airports are using thermal scans and anyone with a fever will be detained, so we are asking anyone in this category to stay put where they are rather than risk a mid-travel quarantine. A member of our team or squad leadership will stay with anyone who might need to wait to travel.
We will continue to monitor this as it evolves and are prepared to make changes in response to new developments.
